Research and development has been an integral part of the Practice since its formation; with Clive, Nathan and Paul specifically drawn to cross-laminated timber (CLT) as a new material - the opportunities it provided for innovation in structural form and its application for different building types.
Our research projects have explored the potential of CLT in high-rise construction, developing feasibility studies and concept designs for 10 – 20 storey residential buildings. Working closely with specialist contractors, fabricators and suppliers we have developed hybrid solutions, bringing together structural timber and steel frame to deliver intelligent engineering designs for a wide range of building types and are now considered leaders in this field.
This knowledge and expertise provided a natural platform for us to extend our research in to modular construction, where we worked with one of the leading modular building contractors to develop design concepts for educational buildings. We are currently researching design concepts for modular residential blocks constructed from CLT and timber cassettes to support the desire of a leading residential developer to build in structural timber.
Engenuiti is a diverse collection of structural and civil engineers with a wide range of skills and interest. We support the passions of our team by allowing them the freedom to develop and learn, whilst sharing their knowledge across the Practice. Collaborating with architects at the early stages of concept designs and design competitions allows them to experiment with ideas and structural materials, research options and identify the best design solutions.
