The Primary School at Red Lodge in Suffolk is a new build 10 classroom school with hall, dining space, kitchen, roof-top play deck and all associated ancillary accommodation.
The structure is formed with cross laminated timber (CLT) panels and glulam beams, with the walls acting as deep beams to allow for the first floor to be cantilevered out over the building below. Internally, the first floor circulation balconies also cantilever by using the stiffness of the CLT balustrades.
Cross laminated timber beams have been used to span the large clear hall and dining room space, with moveable acoustic partitions being hung from their underside.
