As part of our continued involvement in the Birmingham Primary Places programme, Nansen School will form a 3100m2 extension to an existing school providing new nursery, multi-use hall and classroom accommodation.
Engenuiti are working in partnership with Main Contractor Wates and specialist Timber Contractor B&K Structures to deliver a cross-laminated timber (CLT) frame within the constraints of a tight programme and a live school environment.
In addition to its carbon capture properties CLT reduces the weight of the construction with consequent benefits on foundation design and material deliveries to site; provides an 'air tight' structural solution that is fast to erect; offers improved thermal performance compared to conventional structures; and is prefabricated to incorporate all service penetrations, thus minimising noise and disruption to neighbours.
