Every year Engenuiti go on a weekend study trip to a European city. This year it was Vienna and we had a fantastic time!
As ever, eating and drinking well were supplemented by 'study'. This year we decided to combine our love of timber with our love of architecture and on the Friday we visited the Rubner Holzbau factory, to see how glulam and cross-laminated timber (CLT) were manufactured. Everyone had a great time and were very impressed with the size and scale of the factory, machinery and manufacturing processes.
On the Saturday we undertook a guided tour of the Vienna University's new Economics and Business campus, which was designed by the world-renowned architecture offices of Zaha Hadid Architecture, CRABstudio, Hitoshi Abe Studio, Estudio Carme Pinós S.L., NO.MAD Arquitectos and BUSarchitektur ZT. The buildings were amazing and everyone enjoyed finding out about the history of Vienna, as well as the development of the campus. We then had lunch in Vienna's best known food market Naschmarkt, and walked through the beautiful historic streets of the city.
In the evening we had dinner in a traditional Austrian restaurant which had slow roasted pork knuckle and Wiener Schnitzel on the menu! Followed by dancing until the early hours in a great club beneath the old U-Bahn arches. Everyone had a brilliant night!
We are already looking forward to our next study trip - now we just need to decide where to go!
