Engineering Discipline: Structural and civil engineering

Designed with Bond Bryan Architects, the new 3 storey Economics Building on the University of Kent campus has two distinct wings providing lecture theatres, classroom/teaching offices, shared teaching spaces, IT suite and administrative offices.
The structural solution for the building uses a steel frame with cross-laminated timber floor slabs.  This solution relies primarily on columns as the vertical load bearing structure as apposed to cross walls, which would severly restrict the future flexibility of the building layout.

Engenuiti is providing the structural, civil and advanced timber engineering for the project.  We are working closely with the design team to achieve a highly sustainable building which achieves BREEAM ‘Excellent’.
