Engineering Discipline: Structural, civil and advanced timber engineering
Designed with Bond Bryan Architects, the new 3 storey Economics Building on the University of Kent campus has two distinct wings providing lecture theatres, classroom/teaching offices, shared teaching spaces, IT suite and administrative offices.
The structural solution for the building uses a steel frame with cross-laminated timber floor slabs. This solution relies primarily on columns as the vertical load bearing structure as opposed to cross walls which severly restrict the future flexibility of the building layout.
Engenuiti undertook the drainage design for planning, and then the detail drainage design and pavement design through to construction.
As structural, civil and advanced timber engineering for the project we are working closely with the design team to deliver an outstanding building for the University which achieves a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating.
