Engineering Disciplines: Structural engineering

Location 18 is a new build penthouse apartment on the fourth floor of Perserverance Works, a heritage listed warehouse within the Kingsland Conservation Area of Shoreditch.  Designed with Waugh Thistleton Architects the apartment includes a reception room, kitchen, two bedroom, two bathroom, a study and two terraces which provide uninterrupted views over St. Leonards Church and the City skyline.

The living space boasts a high ceiling measuring approximately 3.4 meters with exposed Glulam timber beams in a whitewash finish, which beautifully compliments the “smoked oak” flooring and industrial heritage of the development. Culmax floor to ceiling glass panels have been installed around the south-east corner of the apartment and these slide across in both directions, creating a vast opening that provides access out onto a terrace that extends around the building.

Engenuiti provided structural engineering services including back analysis and justification of the existing period warehouse to support the additional vertical and lateral loads; design and analysis of the steel transfer grillage at roof level to accommodate and distribute the proposed extension loadings and the development from concept through to final construction design of the slender steel frame accommodating the extensive glazed elevations and the expressed glulam roof above.
